Blood Orange Mojito

This blood orange mojito is simple to make and such a fun variation on a classic cocktail.



For the Simple Syrup

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • ½ blood orange, juiced 

For Blood Orange Mojito

  • 1 ounce white rum
  • 1 lime, juiced (about ¾ ounce) 
  • 1 blood orange, juiced (about 1 1/2 ounces) 
  • ½ ounce simple syrup, or to taste
  • 45 mint leaves 
  • Club soda or seltzer water


For the Simple Syrup

  1. In a small saucepan set over medium-high heat, combine the water, granulated sugar, mint leaves, and blood orange juice. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar has dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat. Cover and allow the syrup to steep for 30 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the mint leaves and orange pulp. 
  2. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. 

For Blood Orange Mojito

  1. Mix the rum, lime juice, blood orange juice, simple syrup, and mint in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake for about 30 seconds so that the drink is thoroughly mixed and nicely chilled.
  2. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice and top with club soda. Garnish with mint leaves and a slice of blood orange. ENJOY!


To make a virgin mojito, leave out the rum. 

I recommend using freshly squeezed juice. It really makes a difference.
