A couple of weeks ago, I told you how silly I felt posting a “recipe” for how to cook tater tots in the air fryer. Welp, today’s post falls into that same category :) I’m not at all sorry for it.

I was originally planning to make a post for Air Fryer Frozen French Fries but as I was standing in the freezer aisle at the store, I realized that there are SO MANY different options and I knew that they’s all cook a little different. SO, I bought 5 different types and got to experimenting.

It was very tough work but I did it, all for you :D

Here are the types of frozen fries that we’re going to air fry:

  • Sweet Potato fries
  • Seasoned Curly fries
  • Waffles fries
  • Steak fries
  • Regular fries

For all of these, all you need is a bag of fries and an air fryer. THAT’S IT! If you want a little extra crisp to your fries, you can spray them with a little cooking spray before air frying them but that is totally optional. I usually skip it.

What I found is that every single frozen fry cooks a little different, so let’s quickly go over the different temperatures and cook times. Of course, this will vary a little by brand, thickness of fries, as well as model of air fryer, but here’s a great starting point.

Here’s how to make french fries in the air fryer-

Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries:

  • 350 degrees F.
  • 12-15 minutes, tossing halfway

Please note that sweet potato fries cook a little quicker than the other fries that I tested. I also found that they work best at a lower temperature (350 instead of 400).

Air Fryer Waffle Fries:

  • 400 degrees F.
  • 18-22 minutes, tossing halfway

Air Fryer Steak Fries:

  • 400 degrees F.
  • 15-20 minutes, tossing halfway

Seasoned Curly Fries:

  • 400 degrees F.
  • 12-15 minutes, tossing halfway

I tried several different brands of curly fries because I was surprised how quickly the first batch cooked. But as it turns out, this type of frozen fry just doesn’t need s long to get nice a crispy.

Plain air fryer frozen fries:

  • 400 degrees F.
  • 18-22 minutes, tossing halfway

And of course, I figured cooking all of these french fries in the air fryer was the perfect opportunity to make a french fry charcuterie? lol. I had fun with it :)

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces frozen fries, that is about how much fits neatly into my air fryer but this will vary by model
  • Optional cooking spray

Instructions

Plain fries:

  • Pre-heat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  • Place fries in the air fryer with option to spray them with a little cooking oil (I’ve found that this gets the fries a little crispier but they still turn out great without it!).
  • Cook for 18-22 minutes, tossing halfway. ENJOY!

Sweet Potato Fries:

  • Pre-heat the air fryer to 350 degrees F. I found that these turn out better cooked a little lower (350 instead of 400).
  • Place fries in the air fryer with option to spray them with a little cooking oil (I’ve found that this gets the fries a little crispier but they still turn out great without it!).
  • Cook for 12-15 minutes, tossing halfway. ENJOY!

Seasoned Curly Fries:

  • Pre-heat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  • Place fries in the air fryer with option to spray them with a little cooking oil (I’ve found that this gets the fries a little crispier but they still turn out great without it!).
  • Cook for 12-15 minutes, tossing halfway. ENJOY!

Waffles fries:

  • Pre-heat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  • Place fries in the air fryer with option to spray them with a little cooking oil (I’ve found that this gets the fries a little crispier but they still turn out great without it!).
  • Cook for 18-22 minutes, tossing halfway. ENJOY!

Thick/ steak fries:

  • Pre-heat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  • Place fries in the air fryer with option to spray them with a little cooking oil (I’ve found that this gets the fries a little crispier but they still turn out great without it!).
  • Cook for 15-20 minutes, tossing halfway. ENJOY!

Notes

For all of the recipes: it’s okay if the fries are slightly overlapped but you don’t want to over crowd the basket by having multiple layers of fries. I aim for one layer that a bit packed
