Your dog is going to LOVE you for making this 3 Ingredient Dog Ice Cream that’s a great frosty paws copycat!! (I’m sure your dog already loves you but you get the point ?). it comes together in just a few minutes and can be stored in the freezer throughout the summer to reward those good pups you love so much.
We think this would also make a great cat ice cream too!

THIS POST WAS UPDATED AUGUST8, 2024 AND WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN ON AUGUST 1, 2015.
Today I’m sharing with you an OLD recipe from the blog that I’m revamping a bit with an updated recipe (took the honey out of the recipe because it wasn’t really necessary), updating the photos, AND adding a video for how to make it!
The heat index in Nashville this week is getting up above 100 degrees and for my 2 long haired pups, that’s just a bit too hot! I mean, for everyone that is a bit too hot but I imagine wearing a winter coat in the summer is not exactly fun. As a result, they don’t spend too much time outside during the worst of the heat.

Before making these, I suggest that you do a little bit of research to make sure that you are comfortable with your dogs consuming each of these 3 ingredients or maybe if there’s a special kind of yogurt you prefer. You should also make sure to check that the ingredients don’t contain anything that your particular pet might have any allergy to.
I’m happy with my dogs having all of these ingredients (just a little every once in a while) but everyone is different and has varying opinions on the matter. Okay? Let’s do this.
Why you’ll love this recipe:
- It’s a dog-friendly ice cream made with simple and thoughtful ingredients
- It only takes about 5 minutes to throw together!
- It’s a refreshing frozen treat that your furry friends will absolutely LOVE!
- It has no added sugar, sweeteners, or weird ingredients like many of the store bought versions.
- It can be easily stored in the freezer for quick treats!

Ingredients:
- Plain Yogurt of choice – I most often use plain Greek yogurt but which yogurt you prefer will work well!
- Ripe banana – I most often make this with banana BUT you can easily swap this out for pure pumpkin puree (I usually use canned pumpkin) or even mashed sweet potato!
- Peanut butter – because I’ve never met a pooch that didn’t love peanut butter! You’ll just want to check the ingredients and make sure that it doesn’t have an xylitol in it as that is toxic for dogs.
- Optional add ins: you can easily add any doggy safe foods to this ice cream! I’ve added crumbled up dog treats to the top as well as blueberries and strawberry!

How to Make Dog Ice Cream:
This is ridiculously easy! Add all three of the ingredients (banana, yogurt, and peanut butter) to a blender and blend until creamy. You can also do this in a big bowl with a hand mixer or simply by hand if you’re ready to put a little muscle into it.
The mixture is then poured into whatever mold you have on hand. I used THIS paw print mold from Amazon BUT I’ve also done this using ice cube trays and mini Tupperware containers. They all work great and I promise your dogs won’t care either way. I’ll link a few other options at the bottom of the post too!
PLEASE please let me know if you make this ice cream for dogs AND massive bonus points if you send me a pic on Instagram of your dog eating their dessert ??

It’s very easy to make, also, it don’t require much ingredients. But my dog dont like bananas so yeah. He acctually hates them. : /
You can omit the bananas and put some other fruit in there.
I used a Blue Bunny Plastic ice cream container. I basically doubled your recipe and it fits perfectly! My dogs LOVE it! It’s harder then people ice cream, so I slightly defrost it to make it scoopable. Next time I think I’ll do individual cups to avoid the defrosting process. My dogs THANK YOU! I was thinking of making it in molds and giving it to my friends who have dogs this Christmas!

Thank you for the wonderful recipe! My Teddy loved these treats so much!
I love eating ice cream with my pup and was so happy to find this after I couldn’t find any puppy ice cream in the stores during this pandemic! And, it’s so easy and inexpensive I don’t know why I didn’t look for this sooner. He LOVES this and now we get to enjoy eating ice cream together again (yes, he is spoiled to the tenth, but he’s my rescue boy and deserving!).
OMG i just came across your blog. I live just outside of Nashville. Takes me 15 mins to get Downtown. (On a good day) As i also make this recipe & have done so for 2 years now. My dogs love it.

Love this recipe! So easy and my fur babies get so excited for their treats!! I am interested in the cbd oil for dogs. Could you please tell me more about it.
so glad that your pups like these! We’ve really enjoyed the cbd products. I always encourage people to do their own research on the products before they buy them. We have large breed dogs and now that they’re over 10 years old, they both have achy hips (common for large dogs) and the treats seem to help them
