This Caramel Latte is the perfect dessert drink you can make at home! It’s a quick and easy recipe to whip up and requires just a few ingredients, including milk, brown sugar, homemade caramel sauce and espresso or strong coffee. The perfect morning or afternoon pick-me-up!
Ever since I started experimenting with making lattes at home, I’ve become fascinated with all the different kinds of speciality coffee drinks you can easily make with just a few simple ingredients. You basically can’t make an easier latte at home than my honey latte. And it’s SO good.
It was only a matter of time before I started to flavor my lattes with caramel sauce. You can use any caramel sauce, but I highly recommend you try my vegan caramel sauce. It’s incredibly delicious and so quick and easy to whip up!
This caramel latte is indulgent, but making it at home ensures it’s made using simple ingredients and nothing weird that you can’t pronounce. Sweeten it up or down depending on your taste.
Add a little whipped cream and extra caramel drizzle on top, if you’re fancy like me, and enjoy this sweet and cozy caramel coffee with breakfast, as an afternoon pick-me-up or even as a little post-dinner treat!
Ingredients needed
Each steaming latte is thick, creamy, perfectly sweet, and made with the perfect ratios of caramel and espresso. Here’s a note about all of the ingredients needed for this caramel latte recipe:
- Milk. Use whatever type of milk you like best. I’m a big fan of barista grade oat milk in this!
- Brown sugar. Just 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar is used as the sweetener to give the lattes a lovely rich depth of flavor.
- Caramel sauce. Homemade caramel sauce is super simple to make and it’s WAY tastier than store-bought options, but feel free to use any caramel you have available.
- Vanilla extract. To bring out the sweet flavors.
- Espresso or strong coffee. Either work, but I like using espresso for a stronger coffee flavor.
How to make this recipe
Learning how to make a caramel latte is way easier than you might think! Here’s a quick rundown of the process, but reference the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full, printable recipe.
- Steam the milk. In a small pot over medium heat, combine the milk, brown sugar, caramel sauce, and vanilla. Whisk to combine and cook, whisking constantly, until the milk begins to steam around the edges. Remove from the heat.
- Froth the milk. If you’d like, use a hand frother or milk frother to froth the milk. You can also whisk it vigorously until the milk becomes a little frothy.
- Serve. Pour the hot coffee into your serving mug and pour the milk mixture over the top. Garnish with optional whipped cream and additional drizzle of caramel sauce! ENJOY!
Serving suggestions
This delicious latte really needs no pairing at all, but I love to serve it with my Banana Coffee Cake Muffins for a match made in heaven! They are fluffy, vegan and great for on the go!
Frequently asked questions
What is a latte?
A latte is simply steamed and frothed milk that is mixed into hot espresso. It’s less foamy than a cappuccino, another Italian milk and coffee drink.
How can I make this vegan?
It’s easy to make this caramel coffee vegan and dairy free. Use a barista grade oat milk or any plant based milk and my homemade caramel sauce. If you’d like to add the whipped cream topping, be sure to use almond whipped cream or coconut whipped cream.
Can I make this iced?
I haven’t tried making this an iced caramel latte, but it should work fine. Once you’ve made the caramel/milk mixture, let it cool completely or store in the fridge to chill. When you’re ready to enjoy, combine it with a cold brew concentrate.
